Where NOT To Skimp On Your Car

Posted by Ben Davidson about 5 years ago
Whenever you buy a car, you’re faced with a ton of extra expenses that go beyond the finance payments. You’ve got to look at gas costs, insurance, road tax, MOT and have an emergency fund separate from it all for those little fixes that are needed along the way. It makes sense that you would want to save money on your car where you can, after all, saving money is one of the most important goals for most people.

When you have a machine as complex as a car, it’s easy to try and go budget where you can. The thing is, there are plenty of reasons you should never skimp on certain auto parts. Driving your car for work as well as for social reasons often results in needed parts replacing faster than if you just used it occasionally. It’s a fact of life that when you own a car, repairs are going to be necessary. They can be expensive, which is an issue for most car owners. But, what parts should you never skimp your cash on?

What parts should you never skimp your cash on?
  • Brakes. It can be argued that your brakes are the most important part of your car, as without them you cannot stop. Safe driving means you need to keep your brake pads in good condition. They wear out pretty quickly due to usage and it’s important you spend the money on the brake pads that are branded for your car instead of the budget alternative. You have to ensure you are confident that your car will stop when you want it to!

  • Tyres. The weather is the biggest consideration when it comes to your tyres, as they are the one thing that is between you and the road. If your tyres aren’t properly fitted by a company like Wiltshire Tyres, you run the risk of the handling of your car being out of control. Premium tyres allow an advanced tread, meaning the gripping to the road will be better as would the stopping time.

  • Lights. It’s not just a law to have the head and taillights of your car working properly, it’s in your best interest. They are key for the safe running of your car, and it’s for this reason you shouldn’t choose dimmed bulbs. When you’re driving in inclement weather and trying to see through a storm, you also need to be seen! Don’t skimp on the lights in your car and your view of the road will stay uncompromised.

  • Battery. Other than gas, your car needs a battery to run. With a budget battery, your vehicle cannot run to the best of its ability, and choosing a high-quality battery means you will keep your car on the road and running for longer.

  • Wipers. Believe it or not, windscreen wipers are one of the car parts that people like to save money on. But what would you do in heavy weather if they stuck or stopped working altogether? Spending that little bit extra on the right wipers for your vehicle is better than crashing your car and spending even more money on a replacement, right?
