The Hidden Factors Affecting Your Driving

Posted by Ben Davidson about 9 months ago
The more conscious you are as a driver, the safer you are likely to feel as you cruise along. But in order to get there, you need to be made aware of the hidden factors which might be affecting your driving. It often comes as a surprise to discover that it is not all as crystal clear as you might hope. But coming to terms with the subtle influences on your driving is the first vital step towards improving your driving, and making you a safer presence on the roads for the sake of yourself and everyone else. Let’s have a look at those hidden factors, and how you can bring them into the light.

    Emotions

You probably don’t put much thought into how you are feeling when you step into your car. But as it turns out, it might not be such a bad idea. If you truly want to have as much control as possible over your driving, then you will need to look into your emotions as you drive, and try to discover how you might be able to keep them steady throughout the journey. Many things can affect your mood in this way. It might be due to something which is in your bodily system before you set out; there is a proven link between auto accidents and marijuana and alcohol. It might just be that you are experiencing some background anxiety or a little stress. All of this affects how you feel, and how you drive. For improved driving, you need to make sure that you are taking care of your mind.

    Road Rage

Do you suffer with occasional road rage? Funnily enough, most people will answer with a concrete ‘no’, even though the statistics show that road rage is an increasingly common experience amongst drivers everywhere. The problem is that road rage often goes undiagnosed for too long, making it the perfect example of a hidden influence which could be affecting the way you drive. In order to find out whether you have a streak of road rage in you, it might be a good idea to try and pay more attention to the way you feel when you drive. Do you frequently become angry at the smallest indiscretions? If so, it might be worth trying to get to the bottom of it so that you can drive much more safely in future.

    Tiredness

We have all driven a little tired from time to time. But if you are overly tired, it could actually cause a serious problem. If you find that you are routinely too tired at the wheel, you will need to find a solution fast. Often, the driver is not even aware that they are that tired - and that is the very problem. If you don’t notice that you are becoming drowsy, you run the risk of falling asleep at the wheel. Clearly, this has the potential to be incredibly dangerous, and that is why you need to be aware of how you feel before you step into the car.
