Staying On Track For Your First Track Day!

Posted by Ben Davidson about 5 months ago
Choosing to take your car to a track can be a big adventure. It’s a trip that you’re always going to remember and if you want the memories to be good ones, you need to be as prepared as possible. You need to know what in your vehicle will break first, you need to know how to avoid finishing last and how you can upgrade your car to be the best that it can be.

Ideally, you need to have some driving experience before you even get started on the road to track day, and you need to make sure you’re not taking a brand-new car that you don’t know to the track, either. Your car should be well broken-in and performing in a way you are familiar with! So, how can get you get yourself prepared and ready for a fantastic track day?

1. Tires & Brakes. Two of the most important parts of your car in your day-to-day driving are going to be the most important parts for track day. Proper tires are those that can whip you around a race track in record time, so the tread needs to be good and the tires should be upgraded and installed on your car properly. Your brakes need to be tested and replaced if necessary so you can get around the corners properly!
        2. Test It! Did you know that you can road test your track day by using a motorsport simulator? There are plenty of them around and if you can’t find one local to you, then you can take your car to your local track to have some practice before the big day itself.
        3. Lose Weight. Not you – your car! Removing any unnecessary interior weight will help lighten your car so that it flies around the corners of the track. Cars come with a lot of exciting gadgets but when it comes to track day, those gadgets aren’t going to help you in the slightest. Check out this article to find out how you can help your car slim down for a successful race.
        4. Safety Dance. A good track day is a safe track day, and this means you need to pay attention to safety equipment for the day of the race. Flame-proof suits and helmets are going to help you if you crash by accident, and you need to wear long sleeves and decent length in the legs, too. A foam bike helmet just won’t do so make sure you purchase a proper one.
        5. Modify. The simplest and best modification you can have for your car is a factory spec alignment. Doing this is going to really help you get around those corners faster than others. You need to get your car looked over by an expert before you get to the track to make sure it’s aligned, ready and safe to use.

Motorsports are not for the faint of heart, nor are they for early drivers looking for a thrill. There’s a serious competition here and so you need to be well-prepared for the excitement!
