Things To Remember When Taking Out A New Insurance Policy

Posted by Ben Davidson about 1 years ago
Whether you’re renewing, or you simply want to look around for a better deal on your insurance policy, there’s a few things that you should be considering before signing any agreement with a company. Usually, people are blindsided by the deals that companies are offering and forget to check whether the policy is actually offering them everything they need when it comes to insurance. Here are some things to remember when taking out a new insurance policy.

The first thing to remember is that there is always a better deal than what you have now. Just because the company offering the insurance isn’t a large brand, it doesn’t mean that the cover and service you will receive will be any less than what you expect. Make sure that you’re going through comparison websites when looking for your next policy, and changing your preferences to what you want exactly so that you can find the perfect quote for you. You should also keep in mind that companies are willing to negotiate with prices, because they need and want your custom. So, if you find a quote that’s offers everything you want, it might be worth phoning the company and seeing if you can talk them down in price a little.

You also need to consider pricing when it comes to insuring someone else on your vehicle, or even their own car on your policy. This is especially important when it comes to getting your teenager insured to drive because they are obviously going to have a higher premium as they have no trust rating built up yet. Rather than giving them the luxury of being on your insurance policy, give them their own so that they can build up their own set of no claims and give themselves a better chance of getting good quotes in the future. If you can’t afford this option, speak to insurance providers to see if there is anything they can do to help with the situation. As mentioned above, companies are more than willing to do what they can to ensure that they gain your custom.

Another thing to be wary of is what the insurance company can offer you if your car breaks down. Do they offer a breakdown service, or will you have to hire towing services? Sometimes it works out better in your favour to not pay for the breakdown service of your insurance, as it can add on a large chunk of money to your policy that might not even be used and in some cases, actually using the breakdown services can affect your no claims.

As you can see, there are many different things to think about when taking out a new insurance policy, so make sure that you’re not wowed by great prices and actually look into what they can offer you. Make sure you know exactly what you want from your policy so that you don’t end up paying for something you didn’t want!
