Everything You Need To Know Before Buying A Car

Posted by Ben Davidson about 20 days ago

A car is for most people the second-largest purchase you will make, so before you buy one there a few key things you need to know and some essential things you should do, so here goes:

    Research

Just as you would do with anything else you are going to buy, you should research and do it online.  From magazine websites to the automakers' own sites and even now sites like eBay, there are people looking to sell a car, and there is a staggering amount of information for you to take in when doing your research. Get as much as you can though, take notes, make a spreadsheet, and get your head straight before you go to the dealership. You need to turn up there feeling confident with your information knowing what you want and then only go to the dealership for a test drive. When researching you need to look out for quality ratings, check out the ones from J.D. Power and Associates, look at last year's models but only look out for good deals and compare them to the brand-new models to see how much it has improved in the year and if it's worth it.

    Negotiate

When you go to the dealership, then be straight with the salesperson about what you want and how much you're willing to spend. Make sure you shop around at plenty of dealerships and be sure to go there with all the knowledge, knowing what your options are and how much other dealers are selling your car for. If you know what you want and you know what it's worth, you won't have to waste time listening to the dealership trying to sell you a car with option packages that you don't want or need. If you're trading in your old car, then mention this first to get the dealership's best offer.

    Close The Deal

Arrange your financing through the dealership as they will be able to offer you financing just as good if not better than your bank will. If the dealer can earn a profit off the markup, or "reserve," on the interest rate, you may be able to negotiate a lower price on the car. If you're always losing your keys, find out what a new one for your car costs as it might be a lot more than you think so find out what coverage you can get and what warranties you can get, but you should still be wary of extras and make sure that you fully understand every line of your sales contract.

    Drive Away

Once you have chosen your new wheels, then get on the road and enjoy them! It's yours to enjoy, just make sure you drive safely, look after your vehicle and visit some awesome places, travel around, and really make the most of having a new set of wheels.
