Why you may need a lawyer to deal with your employee’s traffic accident

Posted by Ben Davidson about 3 months ago
Car accidents are a fact of life. Every day, there are around 15,913 traffic accidents, in the USA alone. Most of the time nobody is hurt, but, usually, there is some damage to either vehicles or property. So, if one of your employees is involved in an accident you will have some paperwork to fill out.

Usually, things can be settled amicably enough. The insurance companies talk and everyone gets the money they need to make repairs and cover the costs of medical treatment. But, sometimes it is still wise to employ a car accident law firm to help you to handle things. You will understand why that is when you read on.

Vehicle accident scams are a growing issue
In many parts of the world, car accident scams are becoming more common. It is still relatively easy for someone to deliberately create a situation that leads to an accident then make a claim for compensation.
How these scams work

A favorite approach is to knock out the brake lights on their vehicle, perhaps by loosening a wire. When they stop at a junction, no lights come on, so the vehicle behind hits them. The light casing gets broken, so everyone assumes that they were working, but, were damaged in the accident. This is clever because it looks like your employee was to blame for the incident.

At the scene, the occupants of the car pretend that they were injured. Feigning the early symptoms of whiplash or developing a limp are two easy ways to do this.
They then claim for those injuries. It is a false claim, but that is very hard to prove.
How the right car accident lawyer can help you

Fortunately, car accident lawyers are wise to these scams. They instantly know one when they see them and understand what steps to take to make sure you do not become a victim of these scammers.
They know how to fight your corner. How to make sure you do not get the blame and see the cost of insuring your vehicles soar as a result of accidents where your employee was not at fault.
Your company vehicle insurance may not cover you fully

It is important not to make the mistake of thinking that it does not really matter because your insurance will pay the other party whatever the situation is. This is only true up to a point.
Any vehicle insurance policy your company has will have limits. So, if the other party can convince the authorities that your employee was responsible for the accident, even when they weren’t, you could have a big issue on your hands.

If their injuries were bad enough for them to win compensation of let’s say $200,000. In that situation, your insurance company will pay. But, of course, only up to the limits of your policy. This article explains why that is.

But, paying the balance then becomes your responsibility. If you are not careful you can be left owing the complainant tens of thousands of dollars. A good lawyer can alert you to this danger and help you to deal with the situation properly.
