Protecting Your Vehicle When Relocating

Posted by Ben Davidson about 2 months ago

When relocating to a new state, there will be 101 things you have to worry about. The security of your car shouldn’t be one of them. It may make more sense to ship your belongings so that you can fly- especially if you are moving to the other side of the country. Knowing how to ship your car, and the costs involved is a vital part of the relocation process. Figuring out the logistics of this, and finding a reputable company to take care of this for you, will give you the peace of mind that you want during a potentially stressful period.

    Sourcing a transport company

There are a lot of good auto transport companies out there to choose from and it can be a little challenging to filter through and select the one that you trust and works with your budget. Ship a Car Direct is a certified car shipping company that offers door to door auto transport services and guarantees the safety of your car. Once you have found an auto transport service that you are happy with, you will need to assess the cost of transport. Factors that will affect the total cost of transporting a car include the distance to be traveled, the size and weight of your vehicle, as well as the make and model. You may also have to consider the time of year you are moving, as most car shipping companies increase in demand during the summer months, and therefore increase the price of shipping.

Getting your car ready for transport

Preparing your car for shipping doesn’t have to be complicated. It is pretty straight-forward. There are a few things you will need to do to prepare your car for transport and protect your vehicle as much as possible. Retracting your antennas, for example, and If you have any racks outside of your vehicle, then they also need to be removed. Another thing to consider before sending your car off is that it is better not to fill your tank up before transport- mainly for weight reasons. However, you do not need to worry about removing any gas from your tank, remember not to fill it up before it gets transported. The last thing is, of course, to remember to give your key to the auto transport company and get a spare one made just in case.

    Insurance to consider

A good auto shipping company should provide you with a guarantee. In case of damage, they should be able to provide you with carrier insurance. It makes sense, however, to also have your insurance, and see if your existing car insurance covers auto relocation, and if not- if you can purchase additional coverage. If you have an expensive car and have any concerns over the potential for damage to your vehicle, then it makes sense to choose an auto relocation service that guarantees the protection of your car.

Inspect your car upon arrival, and if you are happy with the service provided, then you can proceed to use your vehicle as usual!
