4 Ways To Improve Your Car's Handling

Posted by Ben Davidson about 2 months ago

When you are choosing a car, it’s important that you take it for a test drive and see how it handles. Good handling makes the driving experience a lot better and it helps to improve safety as well. But did you know that there are ways to improve the handling even further after you buy the car? These are some of the most effective ways to improve your car’s handling.

Wider Wheels

Having wider wheels on the car means that you have more tread in contact with the ground, which improves grip and makes the car handle a lot better. If you find a wheel widening service to widen your rims and invest in some new tyres, it will make all of the difference. Wider wheels can also increase acceleration, especially in larger cars, and reduce braking distance and improve safety. If you are going to make any modifications to your car, wheel widening is one of the best things that you can do.

Strut Bars

On the face of it, strut bars do not appear to do that much, but they actually hold parts of the chassis that would normally flex when you go around a bend. It makes the whole car feel a lot stiffer and, although they add a bit of extra weight, strut bars can improve handling quite a bit. They are one of the simplest modifications to make to your car as well, so if you are looking to improve handling without too much work, this is one of the best options.

Reducing The Weight

The only downside of a strut bar is that they add weight, which can have a negative impact on handling. If you can find ways to reduce the weight of your car, it will improve handling and reduce the stress on your tyres and brakes. This helps to cut the running costs of your car as well because maintenance is reduced and you use less fuel. Changing out some parts with fibreglass components helps a lot, but it’s going to be expensive. You can also remove heavy electrical components and replace the glass windows with polycarbonate. Reducing the weight is a very effective way to improve handling, but it is also very expensive and time consuming.

Sports Absorbers

Installing some sports absorbers is the most effective way to boost handling, but also the most expensive. You will find that your car is stable at high speed and takes corners with ease, and your braking distance will be significantly improved as well. When you install sports absorbers, it lowers the car’s height, which looks good, but also lowers the center of gravity. It is the lowered center of gravity that improves the handling and makes the car a lot safer to drive. If you are going to go for this option, it’s best to avoid the cheap ones because they will not be anywhere near as effective as a good quality set of sports absorbers.

If you make these simple modifications to your car, you can improve the handling in a big way.
