Fessing Up To Being A Risky Driver, Can You Do It?

Posted by Ben Davidson about 2 months ago

We all fall foul of mistakes behind the wheel. The big question is whether we do anything to learn from it. When when we go on the same journeys, day in and day out, it's effortless to become a distracted driver. But going one step further and becoming a risky driver this something that we don't necessarily consolidate within ourselves. We don't potentially think of ourselves as risky because we get to our destination in one piece. But we will have near misses with people and are quick to comment when others are risky. Now it's time to turn the mirror on to ourselves. Are you an unsafe driver? And what can you do to minimize it?

Consuming Alcohol (Even In Small Amounts)

This may sound incredibly obvious, but many people think nothing of having one drink and being of the opinion that they can drive properly. But the fact of the matter is any amount of alcohol can impair your ability to drive and slow down your reaction times. There is nothing worse than suffering a DUI conviction. And you could end up with a suspended license. And while you could end up applying for a hardship license that allows you to continue driving, it's a very harsh lesson in being a risky driver. Many people consume one or two but fall under the spell of believing they got away with it. The solution is simple; avoid alcohol.

Speeding When You Can Get Away With It

Everybody likes the feeling of breaking the law varies slightly, but one of the big problems many drivers have when they get out on the open road, and there's no law enforcement for what seems like miles is that they will do everything they can to get beyond the speed limit. But more than half the fatal crashes involve erratic driving. And speeding is the most common reason. When people feel the need for speed, this overrides common sense. But what happens is that it becomes a part of your life where you start to keep an eye out for speed traps or cameras and use this to your advantage. After a while, you speed everywhere that you been able to get away with it. This means that after a while, you will become undone by an unmarked police car. It seems that it's one of those things that everybody knows they shouldn't do, but it takes a real severe lesson to understand why the speed limits are there truly. It's predominantly younger drivers that speed. But some people still feel the temptation to put the pedal to the metal as they get older. If you think you can get away with it when you speed, it could take a speed awareness course to make you realize what you're doing or something even more fatal.

Being a risky driver is something that we never think we suffer from. But these two things are undoubtedly something we've all done at some point. While it's very easy to say that we're only human and we fall foul of mistakes once we start to realize that we are a risky driver, this is when we can begin to fix these problems.
