5 unplanned costs you should always prepare for

Stressed about unplanned costs and payments? You aren’t alone. When times are tough, it can be hard enough to meet all your planned payments, let alone the ones you weren’t expecting.

While paying for adult life can be difficult, it’s important to try to budget for the unexpected. Having a little left over and kept for an unplanned expense will reduce stress and make life a little simpler. But what unplanned costs might you need to prepare for?

Car accidents

If you’re a regular driver, it’s important to keep some money aside in case of car accidents. While you might be a smooth and careful driver, not everyone on the road is quite so rule abiding. Car accidents could lead to costly car repairs, hospital fees and legal expenses (see these lawsuit loan companies for more information). A sensible driver knows the risks and puts some money aside, just in case.

Funeral costs

No one wants to think about a loved one dying unexpectedly. It’s probably one of the things we fear most. However, the death of a loved one can become even more upsetting if you can’t afford to pay for a funeral. While funerals can be expensive and distressing, they are necessary in ensuring that friends and family get to say goodbye and make peace with their loss. So, a little money for the worst-case scenario might be useful.

Home repairs

A broken dishwasher. A busted boiler. A smashed window. We all know how stressful it can be when faced with unplanned damages or faults in the home. Most things need to be fixed pretty quickly. You can’t live for long without hot water. Homeowners should keep aside a little money just in case anything goes awry in their property. You might resent spending the money, but you’ll resent living in a house with no central heating in winter even more.

Vet fees

If you’re an animal lover, you’ll know how devastating it can be when a pet gets sick. Your pet is like a child to you and you don’t want to see them suffering. Unfortunately, household pets can get sick easily. Perhaps they’ve eaten something poisonous outside or gotten into a fight with a neighboring animal. Whatever the situation, vet fees can come at inconsiderate times – and they aren’t cheap. But, if you aren’t ready to say goodbye to your beloved pet, you’ll need to find the money from somewhere.

Mini-breaks

While we probably save for a big family vacation, sometimes we all need an unplanned break. Work’s hard, life’s tough and you could do with some time away. So, put some money aside for a time when an unplanned weekend away sounds like heaven.
