The Most-Loved Car Brands Of 2020, Ranked

Posted by Ben Davidson about 2 months ago

Despite the turmoil of 2020, car manufacturers have been upping their game, seeing new opportunities to provide consumers with vehicles that'll get them from A to B safely in a world where dangerous viruses are doing the rounds.

JD Power recently conducted a study of the most-loved car brands - the highest-rated cars according to owners (not review magazines). So what did people say? Which cars do the public love the most? Check them out below.

Rank #1: Porsche

Porsche is a brand we associate with high-performance vehicles. And for a good reason: the German carmaker has been building nothing else since it first started churning out vehicles decades ago.

However, the brand gained an incredible score of 881 out of a possible 1,000, which is now the second year in a row, the car company has topped its particular segment. According to JD Power, the success was driven by the introduction of the new 2020 911 Turbo and 911 Carrera. The new vehicles are a step-change in the evolution of the pedigree, giving consumers new delights.

Rank #2: Tesla

Strictly speaking, Tesla could have ranked number one. But according to JD Power, the company refused to comply with their ranking methodology criteria, so strictly speaking, it didn't appear in the company's list. With that said, it did receive a score of 896, which actually puts it ahead of Porsche - quite an achievement for a startup brand.

A significant benefit of Tesla is the level of computerization in the vehicles. The carmaker has pretty much nailed the electronic interface, offering something that is at least five years ahead of the rest of the market, and possibly more. Legal professionals, such as Mathew Leyba, are becoming more and more interested in such vehicles' implications. For instance, who is responsible if the car gets into an accident? The manufacturer? The insurance company? The driver? The software developer? It's not entirely clear.

Even so, it's evident consumers love these features. Hopefully, next year Tesla will comply with the ranking criteria so we can see where they come out against other vendors in an apples-to-apples comparison.

Rank #3: Cadillac

Cadillac came in with a score of 874. Strictly speaking, that's pretty good for a US company with a traditional business model. The success comes from some of the company's novelty projects, giving consumers options to buy strange and novel-looking cars. What's more, the company is also vastly improving its servicing infrastructure, encouraging vastly more people to get on board with its vehicles.

Rank #4: BMW

According to owners, BMW doesn't quite offer the quality of Porsche, but it is still doing well. The reason for the lower scores comes from the company's dabbling in the electric vehicle market. The i3 and i8 are both fun vehicles, but extremely prone to issues the company still needs to iron out.

Rank #5: Land Rover

Land Rover rounds out our list with a score of 866. Consumers liked the company's long-term support and the fact that its vehicles can take a beating.
