Domestic Vs Imported: What's The Best Choice For Drivers?

Posted by Ben Davidson about 4 months ago

There’s a wide range of choices when it comes to investing in a new vehicle. And, it is an investment because a car is an asset, even if the value drops over time. The result is that many buyers are left scratching their heads at the plethora of vehicles in front of them.

One of the features to focus on is whether the car is domestic or imported. Both have pros and cons you should factor in before signing on the dotted line. After all, every buyer is different, and whether the positives outweigh the negatives depends on the individual.

Hopefully, the following elements will help you make an informed decision.

Domestic Have Lucrative Schemes

Not all domestic vehicles are cheaper, but several dealers do run promotions that make them very appealing to buyers. This is for a number of reasons, from the perception of foreign vehicles to the disconnect between the features and motorists. However, the important thing to remember is that you can get a great deal as a result, such as cashback. Yes, opting for a non-imported model could mean you receive money on a host of purchases and add-ons, making it worth your while.

Imported Manufacturers Are On The Rise

Part of the reason this is a significant development is the competition it creates. Imported vehicles may come with taxes and rates that boost the price, but the fact that the upfront investment is considerably less expensive is worth evaluating. After all, the automotive industry now includes China, Brazil, and India, three countries where labor rates aren’t as high as North America. This means they can develop models for less and sell them at a lower rate than their rivals. Of course, it’s all down to the savings, which is why you must count every penny.

Some Domestic Vehicles Are Specialists

If you want a coupe or an affordable sedan that has a high level of quality, you may look to Europe or Asia. But, the same isn’t true if you need a pickup truck or a 4x4. There’s no doubt that the US and Canada are the industry leaders when it comes to these vehicles. They have power and plenty of torque, enough to get you out of the stickiest of situations, yet they handle well and are pleasant to drive. Plus, they’re made in North America and are cheap. Anybody searching for a pickup would be mad to import it.

Imported Cars Tend To Be More Reliable

It’s not that US and Canadian vehicles are untrustworthy because they are not. However, if you think about the reliable brands from around the world, the majority of the top ten will be outside of North America. Whether it’s Volvo in Scandinavia, Nissan in Japan, or BMW in Germany, they are notorious for their ability to run all day. Ford isn’t as well-perceived in the automotive world, which is a telltale sign.

In the end, it’s your decision. Remember to evaluate how the pros and cons affect you as you have to drive the car!
