Easy Ways To Make A Boring Car Feel A Lot More Sporty

Posted by Ben Davidson about 3 months ago

It’s no secret that most of the world’s cars are quite boring. Built to make it easier to get from A to B, these machines are often designed with the simplest of features in mind, leaving car owners across the globe feeling underwhelmed by the motor they drive each day. Thankfully, though, the internet and the after-market parts trade have made it much easier to change this in recent years. To give you an idea of how you can make this work to your advantage with your own car, this article will be exploring some of the key modifications that can be used to achieve this goal without putting you through hell in the process.

Spoilers

Spoilers are additions to the body of a car that is designed to change the way that air passes over the vehicle. A spoiler at the front of the car will usually sit below the grill, pulling the front of the car down so that it is easier to make tight corners without losing control. Rear spoilers perform the same role, pulling the back of the car down to prevent oversteer. Rear spoilers tend to be far more visible than those at the front, providing a sporty look to just about any car.

You can find spoilers in all sorts of shapes and sizes, but it’s always worth looking for examples that were originally designed for your car. This is easier to find than you might expect, with countless aftermarket companies making spoilers and other pieces of bodywork for cars. Of course, you could also consider the idea of going for a full body kit when you do this. This will usually include read and front spoilers, along with a range of other pieces that will come together to make your car look a lot sportier.

Suspension

No road is completely smooth, but cars are able to get around this by using suspension. In most configurations, each wheel will have its own spring that connects the wheel to the chassis, providing a buffer that is able to absorb impacts as the car moves over rough terrain. Unfortunately, though, suspension can make a car’s turning feel sluggish and slow, while also absorbing some of the energy created by your engine.

Looking for lowered springs can be a good way to overcome this sort of issue. By tightening your suspension and lowering your car, you will give it the ability to handle even the tightest of corners at much higher speeds than before. Lowering springs is a very common modification to find on track cars, providing a strong edge against those with stock suspension. Of course, though, one of the biggest benefits of this is that it lowers your car, giving it a sporty look that will be impossible to ignore.

Tires

Changing the tires on your car may be an expensive process, but it can be one that leaves your motor feeling far more agile. Your suspension, spoilers, and tires all work in conjunction to keep your car on the road, providing just enough traction to avoid spin-outs and other catastrophes when you are on the track. Most tires are designed to be suitable in all weather conditions, though, and this means that they may not provide the right level of traction when you want to put the pedal down.

You can find loads of tires on the market that are designed for specific conditions, including those that will be great on the track and on most modern roads. Tires like this will be slick compared to their traditional counterparts, stopping them from wasting energy by flexing and pressing into the road, while also making them great in warm weather. Of course, as a big part of this, you will also need to make sure that your tires are inflated to the right PSI for the conditions you are driving in.

Tune-Ups

So far, all of the ideas in this post have been based on making your car’s handling better, but this isn’t the only aspect that will make a car feel sporty. Most people can’t afford to replace the engine in their motor, with this part of the machine being one of the priciest. If you can afford the other items in this post, though, you can almost certainly afford a tune-up, and this can be a great way to squeeze more out of the car you drive.

Getting a car tuned is the process of optimizing the engine and other components to make sure that they are performing at their best. This can leave your car able to move faster and accelerate at a much higher rate, all without having to change any of the expensive components in your car. Most garages can help you with this, though it could be worth looking for a tuning specialist if you want to get the best results.

It would be wrong to talk about car tune-ups without considering the damage that something like this can do. Of course, all manufacturers could take this action with their cars if they wanted to, but they tend to opt for balancing power with reliability. Tune-ups will make your car faster, but they can also give it a shorter lifespan and more time spent in the garage. This will be worth it for some drivers, though others will be less happy to put their car on the line in the name of performance. If you’re unsure about this, it could be worth getting advice from your local mechanic to see what they think of it.

As you can see, making a car less boring and more sporty is much easier than you might expect. Of course, though, this sort of modification is always worth considering before you go through with it. Evening something simple like a spoiler can hurt the value of a car, but it can also have the opposite impact, making it crucial that you understand what you are doing before you do it.
